We couldn’t wait to get involved with “Pompeii: The Exhibition” — an Italian-born exhibit making its North American debut at Kansas City’s Union Station.

As you may know, Pompeii was a city that was buried under volcanic ash almost 2,000 years ago when Mount Vesuvius erupted. What the natural disaster preserved in its wake is truly one-of-a-kind and a fascinating window into ancient history. Pompeii: The Exhibition, which is open now through this spring, has nearly 200 artifacts from Italy, including mosaics, gladiator helmets, weapons and jewelry.

One of the artifacts that is hallmark to the exhibit are casts made from the impressions of bodies overtaken by ash. The same ash and debris that destroyed the city also preserved it.
